Hi-- Nice to meet with everyone today and meet some new people and catch up with others. I'm Autumn Dodge. 4th year in Ed Psych. My interests are in early elementary literacy development, specifically reading fluency and comprehension and how the development of these skills is affected by personal factor variables of self-efficacy and anxiety. The current major project I'm working on right now is my dissertation proposal.

Hi! I'm Michelle Schira Hagerman. I'm a 4th year Ed Psych/Ed Tech student. My research interests are in New Literacies and specifically, in the development of online reading comprehension skills. I'm really interested in this question of what makes online reading "different" and I've done some thinking about how a deeper understanding of the cognitive demands of online reading may help us to understand some of the differences that may or may not exist between online and print-based reading comprehension processes. I'll be starting my dissertation proposal this fall. (This is a picture of my family in Rouen, France -- I taught the 1st year cohort of the MAET Overseas program this past summer :))

Hello there! My name is Sandra Sawaya and I am a second year Ph. D. student in Educational Psychology and Educational Technology. I came to Michigan all the way from Lebanon where I completed a B. A. in general psychology and a teaching diploma in special education.

I am interested in digital text and digital and multimedia learning. The following is a list of topics I am interested in "getting smarter" about: (a) the comprehension strategies that adolescent learners use while reading digital informational text, (b) the cognitive load that occurs in the process, (c) how to design the digital medium to maximise learning outcomes (in terms of comprehension), and similar issues that entail. As a side (but related note), I highly value experimental designs that allow for objective and measurable data to be collected.

Hi! My name is Tamika McLean. I am a first year PhD in EPET from Texas. So don't be surprised if I seem like I am in a bad mood all winter because I HATE the snow and the cold. My research interest are in Mathematics Education and Technology. I am really interested in discovering the effect of project based learning with technology on the teaching and learning of mathematics; whether or not it if PBL is a viable tool to use to teach mathematics and for students to learn mathematics and problem solving/ critical thinking skills.
